How does our templated thinking affect us?

An installation by Rachel Morón

Templated Thinking by Rachel Moron is a desktop research documentary that questions what it means to create and use something that is made to be repeated by others. What are its consequences for concepts such as authorship and authenticity? It makes us take a closer look at how we engage with copy culture, and our templated and networked society at an everyday level.

During the exhibition, the work is placed in a templated office setting where the viewer is is confronted with their own face and performance when they are watching. An image of themselves is placed in a virtual space together with two other singular participants who viewed the work right before them; the performance is done by oneself, but is always in relation with others. This aspect of the work is only activated when it is exhibited.

On June 9 2021, ACED organised Designalism: Design + Journalism, a live talk show about the intersection of design and journalism. Watch the full show on our YouTube channel. This evening was in collaboration with Beeld en Geluid Den Haag.
